Silverstone - Red Bull's Mark Webber topped the time sheets with a 1min46.603 lap during a rain-soaked first practice session ahead of the 2011 British F1 GP.

And it seems Michael Schumacher's prayers were answered as the wet Silverstone circuit allowed him to power his Mercedes to second with a lap of 1min47.263. Schumacher's former team mate at Ferrari, Rubens Barrichello, drove his Williams to thrid place with 1min47.347

Completing the top five times during the first practice session was rookie Sergio Perez and Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

Kamui Kobayashi veered off the track during his final corner and significantly damaged his Sauber. He was not hurt but his car had to be lifted from the track.
