No Blues bid for Tiote

Newcastle have confirmed that they have not received an approach from Chelsea for midfielder Cheik Tiote.

It was believed that The Blues had enquired about the availability of the Magpies star following Michael Essien's injury.

Essien is set to miss most of the first half of the season after damaging knee ligaments and Chelsea have been scouring the market for potential reinforcements.

However, it seems they have not contacted Newcastle as yet, with The Magpies stating they have not heard anything from the Stamford Bridge outfit.

A statement on Newcastle's official Twitter feed read: "The club can confirm that they have received no enquiries for Cheik Tiote, contrary to some media reports."

Tiote joined Newcastle from Dutch side FC Twente last summer for £4.5million and he was regarded as one of the club's most consistent performers.

Andre Villas-Boas' Chelsea have also been linked with West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, although the Hammers say nothing official has been tabled for the England international.

With Newcastle already selling fans' favourites Andy Carroll to Liverpool and Kevin Nolan to West Ham, the last thing supporters would want to see is the club cashing in on £15million-rated Tiote.
