Iker Casillas will retain the Real Madrid captaincy after seeking assurances on the subject from manager Jose Mourinho.
There had been rumours that the former Chelsea boss may look to promote Ricardo Carvalho, a colleague since their days at Stamford Bridge.
But Spain international Casillas has held talks with Mourinho and at a press conference in Beijing, where Real are on tour in pre-season, announced he would keep the armband.
"I had talks with the boss on this question and we discussed if I need to give out the captain position to someone else," said the goalkeeper. "But our boss said this is totally unnecessary."
Ambitious
He added: "There are chances that in the future if something bad happens or due to other reasons, I might leave the captain position.
"But so far I would say there is no sign or chance of that situation."
At the same time, Casillas has unsurprisingly rated club-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as a better player than Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
